Waterboarding as Tourism and Torture
By way of Digby:
I just saw Jeanne Moos do one of her cute little feature stories on ... waterboarding. Lots of adorable stories of people trying it and timing themselves and laughing about it afterwards. Funny, funny stuff. I only wish they'd put her in a stress position for 48 hours naked so we could see how hilarious that is too.
As I've tried to explain for the broken-minded before, just because some people consent to try waterboarding (and can stop at any time) does not transform waterboarding without consent into not-torture. But I used words before, which may have challenged the diminished faculties of some of the target audience. Let's try images.
Consent:

Get it now, you amoral monsters?

They will never get it.

Wow, that is a powerful juxtaposition. Nicely done.

I'm with Joel. They will never get it. When any of their idiot arguments fail, they retreat to the bedwetters' screech: Anything that keeps me and my children safe from the Big Bad is something that must be done. What did Romney say? The most important civil liberty I expect from my government is my right to be kept alive. Colbert said that that will play especially well in New Hampshire where the motto is Live Free or Do Whatever it Takes So I Don't Die.

Come back already, man! I love your insights, and have been missing them like crazy. I hope your life situation is alright, and that nothing terrible has happened to result in this, but please, please, come out of this malaise!
